Last night was Oscar night, and MBC let me stay up late to watch the show. It’s fascinating to see how quickly some people become “stars,” seemingly overnight. But there are lots of little steps involved before one walks the red carpet!
MBC’s life-long friend, Holly Powell, has recently published a book to help actors with those first steps. MBC and Holly’s families were good friends from the time they were both born. MBC still remembers visits with Holly’s family, where there was always music and dancing. As young girls, Holly and MBC “starred” together in productions of “My Fair Lady,” and “Bye, Bye Birdie,” at summer camp in the Texas Hill Country. (Yes, the same camp where I was first introduced to MBC!)
Holly went on to a career as a casting director, and is now teaching audition workshops in her California studio. You can order her book, “The Audition Bible,” at: http://www.theauditionbible.com/
After all, the first step to becoming a star is getting to the audition and being cast in a role!
Several people have recently suggested that the Bluebonnet stories could be adapted to musical theater for children. What do you think? Can you visualize a stage full of singing and dancing armadillos? Or am I just “star-struck?”
As always, keep reading and writing! (And singing and dancing!) Bluebonnet Armadillo
